Catalyzing Creativity in NYC’s Senior Service Organizations

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Ten NYC senior service organizations have each been awarded a grant of $7,500 to plan and implement Creative Aging projects as part of the Catalyzing Creativity initiative, a pioneering city-wide program designed to improve the quality of life of older New Yorkers through arts education programming. Designed and administered by Lifetime Arts, the 18 month-long project is generously funded by The Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation’s Healthy Aging Program with additional support from the New York State Council on the Arts and Aroha Philanthropies.

Supported by professional development and program design guidance from Lifetime Arts as well as the seed grants, at least 30 artists’ residencies will engage older adults in participatory, skill-building workshop series – in all arts disciplines.

Catalyzing Creativity in NYC will move the needle forward in terms of shifting practice around aging and the arts.

About Creative Aging

Creative Aging programs connect older adults with professional teaching artists through active learning programs in all arts disciplines. Sequential, skill-building arts workshops – embedded in socially rich community settings – help combat isolation and reinvigorate learning. Senior service organizations who add Creative Aging to their menu of services not only improve their programming but expand their reach and attract new partnerships and patrons.

About Lifetime Arts

Lifetime Arts is a nonprofit arts service organization working nationally to encourage Creative Aging by promoting the inclusion of professional arts programs in organizations that serve older adults; preparing artists to develop the creative capacity of older adult learners; and fostering lifelong learning in and through the arts by increasing opportunities for participation in community based programming.
