I have been teaching what I do for as long as I remember: theater, writing, and storytelling. My first work as a teaching artist was with children in the schools, and then I branched out to working in libraries, theaters, parks and senior centers. The more I teach, the more I learn about the art form, and how we as artists (that's all of us, students and teachers) grow and change. I cannot imagine not teaching! My students teach me as I teach them. I love it.
The work seniors do, the stories they bring, the risks they are willing to take are thrilling. A community of artists is created so quickly! We are able to work, grow and learn from each other. I learn so much from them; they open up my life, my stories, my ideas, my passions. As I grow closer and closer in age to the seniors, they give me a gorgeous vision of life as an elder.
