Educating, sharing the pleasure and challenge of making art with people of all ages, is an integral part of my practice as an artist. I have worked directly with numerous and varied populations from pre-school children to incarcerated teens to college level students to older adults, and I enjoy breaking down the creative process for each group I meet. Designing specific project activities, mentoring, and bringing related art and cultural history anecdotes to the workspace to provide context is a stimulating experience for me, and it feeds my work in the studio. I have served as a consultant to educational institutions, museums and non-profits throughout my entire career. Currently, I serve as lead instructor/curriculum consultant to the Brick x Brick after school program for teens sponsored by the Perez Museum in Miami. Other experience includes:
A Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Creative Grant; Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, FL ; Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach; Miami-Dade Public Library; Miami Dade College Museum of Art & Design; Lifetime Arts; Legal ArtMiami/Creative Capital; Girls’ Club, Ft. Lauderdale; VSA Arts, Florida; Ohio Arts Council; Wolfsonian Museum-FIU, Miami Beach; Arts4Learning, Miami; Development Associates, Inc.; ArtCenter/South Florida, Miami Beach: New World School of the Arts, Miami, FL; MOCA North Miami, FL; Abstraction Made Elementary, Cambridge, MA
I so enjoyed the interactions with older adults during a previous Lifetime Arts workshop in drawing and painting that I gave. I appreciated the group's attentiveness and willingness to experiment as they re-discovered and activated new skills and passions for art making. Their individual life experiences and stories enriched the entire group's experience of learning to draw and paint. It was extremely rewarding and inspiring - a truly enjoyable bustling studio atmosphere that we shared.
